Sea Cadets annual review 2019/20 just published includes Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou & the Foundation’s support.

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation are delighted to share with you the recently published Sea Cadets Annual Review  2019/20.

Sea Cadets Annual Review 2019/20

Pages 2 & 4 show photos of the Foundation sponsored RS21 keel boats used by the Sea Cadets to deliver keelboat training amongst the 15,000 Sea Cadets across the UK.  The Foundation also co-funded a 3 year On the Water programme engaging 1500 ‘hard to reach’ young people in London.  Following its successful first year in the school holidays 2019, the 2020 programme has been deferred to 2021 due to Covid-19.

The review outlines how Sea Cadets were impacted by the pandemic during this time and how they responded in days wit the development of Virtual Sea Cadets.  As of 1 October 50% of face to face units are now operating.

Due to the current Covid restrictions, the TS Sir Stelios training yacht and 6 keel boats are currently out of the water and being maintained.  They are hoping to return to delivery of the RS21 keel boat courses during 2021 and the On the Water Programme’s 2nd year in London been rescheduled for 2021.

We would also take this opportunity to congratulate the 10 Sea Cadets and volunteer heroes rewarded in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.  They are to receive national awards for their part in supporting their communities and workplaces during a difficult 2020,  four of them for actions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
